Inauguration of Martin S. Roth, Ph.D. as the 26th President of the University of Charleston

The University of Charleston is proud to commemorate the Inauguration of its 26th President,
Martin S. Roth, Ph.D., during a week of celebratory events from Wednesday, October 23 –
Sunday, October 27, 2019. UC is offering its corporate and community partners an opportunity to be a benefactor to the Inauguration and be part of this historic event. Activities start on Wednesday morning with an executive leadership breakfast featuring BB&T CEO Kelly King, followed that evening with a community focused reception to celebrate Marty and Lynn Roth; a student, faculty, staff and alumni event on Thursday; the public Inauguration on Friday afternoon; a ticketed celebratory reception Friday evening; tailgate and homecoming festivities on Saturday; and concludes with a Sunday brunch.
Inauguration Benefactors will help to fund President Roth’s vision for the University as a transformational institution and includes academic programs, scholarships and technologies that strengthen UC’s position for its future. The generosity of Inauguration Benefactors will be recognized with corporate brand visibility in event marketing materials, reserved seating at the Inauguration’s Ceremony on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 3:30 p.m., tickets to a private celebratory reception Friday at 5:30 p.m. and an ad in the Inauguration Commemorative Program.

Inauguration Events
Join University of Charleston trustees, faculty, students, staff, and alumni as we witness history in the making with the inauguration of Dr. Martin S. Roth as the University’s 26th president. The ceremony will highlight the many qualities that make UC special, including representation from our diverse international student population, honored guests from around the country, and speakers with unique perspectives. Inauguration Day will be full of celebration, beginning with a brunch on campus and ending with a one-of-a-kind reception offering the opportunity to meet President Roth and his wife, Lynn. Join us as we welcome in a new era in the University of Charleston’s life, honoring the legacy of its past and ushering in a season of transformation.–>
Dr. Martin S. Roth became President of the University of Charleston in July 2018. Before coming to West Virginia he was Dean and Professor of Management & Marketing at the Barney School of Business, University of Hartford. He was previously
Chair of the Sonoco International Business Department, Executive Director of the flagship International MBA Program, and as the Chief Innovation & Assessment Officer at the University of South Carolina’s top ranked Darla Moore School of Business.
As a higher education leader, Roth has spent the past 30 years helping universities excel by focusing on the talent acquisition and development needs of students and organizations. Working closely with faculty and staff he has led increases
in enrollments, rankings, retention, student placement and satisfaction, faculty recruiting and research support, alumni engagement, corporate partnering, fundraising, new curriculum design, and the development and launch of online degree
programs. At the University of Charleston we do so through our mission to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.
Marty’s teaching and research expertise is in global strategy, management and marketing. He has won numerous teaching awards, including the Alfred G. Smith, Jr. Award as the Moore School of Business outstanding teacher, the Outstanding EIMBA
Elective Professor Award, and an Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of South Carolina Alpha Chapter of the Mortar Board. He has also taught at the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, Katz Graduate School of Business
(University of Pittsburgh), the Arthur D. Little School of Management (Boston), and at universities in Austria, France, Hong Kong, Mexico, Portugal, Thailand, and Tunisia. Executive education and consulting engagements with Blue Cross & Blue
Shield SC, BMW, CSX, Fiberweb, Metso, Nissan, Pitney Bowes, Verizon, Xerox and other companies have added value to their global strategic planning, marketing, branding, customer service, market research, and scenario planning success.
Roth’s research has been published in the leading marketing and management journals, including the Harvard Business Review, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Consumer Research, American Journal
of Managed Care and Journal of International Marketing. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal as well as in many other national and local media and spoken at meetings throughout the Americas and Europe. His CountryManager international
marketing simulation game is used in over 140 schools worldwide.
He earned his doctorate, MBA, and BA degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Before entering higher education, Roth worked in market research and retailing.
